White Night Wedding (Brúðguminn)

Subtitle Language: Icelandic with English subtitles
WHITE NIGHT WEDDING, from Icelandic director and Baltasar Kormákur, is a compelling familial drama following the harried life of Jón (Hilmir Snær Guðnason) – a college professor who's preparing to marry a much younger woman and must contend with her disapproving parents, an insurmountable debt, and the memories of his traumatic first marriage. Through the use of multiple timelines Kormákur drops the viewer simultaneously into both the past and present, deftly exploring the characters and their complicated relationships with one another.
Loosely based on Anton Chekov’s IVANOV, WHITE NIGHT WEDDING explores similar themes, and is equally full of delightfully flawed characters the audience can easily relate to. Straddling a thin line between melodrama and comedy, the film is a fascinating study of human nature, and the desperate desire to find love.
