Neve Campbell narrates Academy-Award-nominated director Leslie Iwerks’ (RECYCLED LIFE) scathing behind-the-scenes film about the “black gold rush” taking place in Northern Alberta’s oil sands. America’s thirst for oil fuels “the largest industrial project on the planet today”—with Alberta replacing the Middle East as the number one supplier of oil to the US. The boon to Alberta tax coffers comes at a significant cost to the downstream communities, their health and the environment—and has pitted these communities against the industry that sustains some of their prosperity, as well as their own government. The engine that drives Alberta’s economy may eventually make large portions of Alberta unfit for human habitation, and the question is: Does that long-term cost outweigh the present benefits? Could America survive without the oil sands?
