Film Talk: Making the Most of Production Design...and Other Harrowing Tales

Year 2011
Runtime 60 mins
Language English

Production designer, visual artist and director Gregg Gibbs has over 20 years experience working in film, music videos and commercials. Probably best known for his production design of the cult classic HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES, directed by Rob Zombie for Universal Studios, Gibbs will spend this panel detailing his formula for leading the art department to make the most visual impact on the screen, while recounting behind-the-scenes encounters with personalities ranging from Britney Spears to Marilyn Manson.

In addition, he will show excerpts from his own work, including his direction of the notable lowbrow art documentary THE TREASURES OF LONG GONE JOHN recently screened at New York’s MoMA, as well as other festivals. Gibbs is also presenting his latest documentary, I, GAUGUIN as a work-in-progress for the festival, having turned from production designer to documentary director during the making of a troubled movie, eventually leading to exposing the artifice of the film-making process. This discussion will include plenty of fun stories, inside tips, design demonstrations and questionable advice that are guaranteed to make this a truly memorable Festival experience.
