The first feature-length film from young local writer-director Kurtis David Harder (winner of the YYC Award at the 2010 Calgary International Film Festival), Cody Fitz captures the confusion and frustration of early adulthood in a series of vignettes. The title character, a death-obsessed shoegazer of the sort popularized by Hal Ashby and updated for the post-MTV generation by Zach Braff, spends his days moping and imagining creative ways to commit suicide. His friend Tom suggests a vacation to cheer him up, but as the trip nears, the gap between Cody's imagination and reality starts to break down. A hyper-independent Harold and Maude by way of Garden State, Cody Fitz was made right here in Calgary with a modest budget and brand new local talent in front of and behind the HD camera. If you're looking for the next generation of local filmmaking talent, look no further.
