Rooted in Greek mythology, the origins of Jason and the Argonauts are older than most modern nations. Jason is the rightful heir to the throne of Thessaly, but must obtain the Golden Fleece to acquire it. Through the aid of the goddess Hera and a crew of voyagers, including Hercules, Jason pursues his destiny.
Featuring the work of animation legend Ray Harryhausen (who passed away this past May), Jason and the Argonauts is a landmark film celebrating its 50th anniversary. A generation of cinema greats like Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Tim Burton and Peter Jackson all attribute its magic to influencing their careers. Perhaps just as important, all movie monsters can thank Jason and the Argonauts for their relevance. In a landscape that sees virtually every commercial film utilizing computer animation, the film industry owes a debt of gratitude to the pioneering of Jason and the Argonauts.
