Neil Vanguard is an introverted high school freshman, whose main social and sexual outlet is the erotic fan fiction he writes about the steamy sexual escapades of Vanguard, a hunky sci-fi hero. After a notebook containing Neil’s writing is exposed to his classmates, he’s befriended by the cool and nerdy Julia, who also dabbles in the world of erotic fanfic. Julia encourages Neil to publish his work in an online adult forum, and he is soon fully immersed in the world of slash – an LGBTQ sub-genre of fan fiction. As Neil and Julia explore their relationship, all comes to a climax when the two friends attend an adult fan fiction literary convention.

A heartfelt coming-of-age comedy about two teenagers exploring sexuality through their writing, SLASH handles complex issues of self-confidence, family relations and adolescent angst, all while celebrating the outsider.
