A Fantastic Woman

(Una Mujer Fantástica)

Year 2017
Runtime 104 mins
Language Spanish

A young transgender woman faces the scorn and judgment of society after her boyfriend dies.

Marina is a young bar singer in love with her much older boyfriend, Orlando, and together they plan a perfect future. After Orlando suddenly falls ill and dies, Marina is forced to confront the taboo of their relationship to his family and society – to prove herself to be complex, strong, forthright, and, well, fantastic.

The story of the young transgender woman, A FANTASTIC WOMAN is the follow-up from Chilean filmmaker Sebastián Lelio, who made a name for himself with the 2013 hit GLORIA. Embraced for its trans-as-trans casting, the film is currently playing some of the biggest festivals on the circuit. It received accolades at the Berlin International Film Festival, including a Best Picture nomination and the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay, and will be featured as a Special Presentation at the Toronto International Film Festival.
