Films to watch for at CIFF 2016: Award-Winning Cinema from Around the World

Posted on August 10, 2016

CALGARY – Today the Calgary International Film Festival announced the Second Wave of Films screening at the 2016 festival. This selection of films, both features and shorts, are some of our most buzzed-about titles that have picked up major awards from other festivals.

"We’re really excited about the diversity and calibre of world films in this year’s festival,” said Brenda Lieberman, Programming Manager & Features Programmer. “I think it’s great how so many of our selections have been so well received at other festivals.”

“This year we decided to broaden our scope for international films and cast a wide net looking for films from all corners of the world,” said Sachin Gandhi, World Cinema Features Programmer. “With films from six continents, we have broken new ground by selecting films from nations that have never been at CIFF.”

“These films have collected top prizes at multiple film festivals,” added Gandhi, “including Cannes, Hot Docs, SXSW, Tribeca, Buenos Aires, Jerusalem, Montreal, Seattle and Adelaide.”
