We're looking for great people who love film! Volunteer registration is now open for the 2017 Calgary International Film Festival running September 20 - October 1.
The Calgary International Film Festival is proud to have a skilled team of energetic and engaged volunteers every year. Register to volunteer and be an essential part of the festival by following the steps below.
Register early to get your top choice of crew! Volunteer registration closes September 15, 2017.
Step 1: Decide on your volunteer contribution
The minimum volunteer contribution is 16 hours during the festival or 26 hours pre-festival. Volunteers committing to this minimum are entitled to 1 general admission voucher for every 2 hours worked. For every hour worked after 16 hours, volunteers are entitled to 1 general admission voucher for each hour worked, up to a maximum of 29 hours. Volunteers who commit to working 30+ hours are entitled to a Festival Pass.
NOTE: General admission vouchers are valid for any regular screening and may be shared with friends and family. The Festival Pass is non-transferrable.
In addition to movie tickets, limited edition volunteer t-shirts, swag bags, special discounts, and a volunteer wrap party are some of the other benefits volunteers can expect from the festival.
Step 2: Decide on your top 3 choices of crew
All volunteers at the festival will work on a "crew" and each crew performs different tasks. There are two types of crews at the festival: Non-Venue Crews and the Venue Crew. The Venue Crew is the largest crew at the festival and is often where we need the most assistance. Non-Venue Crews (e.g. every crew except the Venue Crew) are based at different sites around the festival and may also work at our two main festival sites.
All volunteers will take part in pre-festival training. Training is based on your crew assignment.
Step 3: Register to volunteer
After you’ve decided on your volunteer commitment and have decided on your top 3 choices of crews, please register to volunteer by clicking here. Please contact email@example.com if you have any questions, concerns or challenges!
The Volunteer Coordinator will use the information you’ve provided to assign you to a crew – we will do the best we can to place volunteers in their top choice of crews. You can expect to receive a welcome letter within 72 hours with your next steps.
If you’ve been assigned to a crew that requires additional information (e.g. the Photography Crew will be required to submit a photo portfolio), expect to receive an email with details on how to submit this information shortly after you receive your welcome letter.
Step 4: NEW volunteers plan to attend 1 orientation session
All NEW volunteers will need to attend 1 orientation session – the registration form will ask you which date you are planning to attend. If you are unable to attend either orientation date (e.g. you are not in Calgary for either date), please indicate this on your registration form and the Volunteer Coordinator will be in touch to ensure you get access to our ‘make-up session.’
2017 Volunteer Orientation Dates:
Saturday, August 19, 10:30 am – 12:00 pm at Cineplex Eau Claire (200 Barclay Parade SW)
Wednesday, August 23, 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm, Globe Cinema (618 8 Ave SW)
Step 5: DOWNLOAD AND REVIEW THE VOLUNTEER HANDBOOK
The Volunteer Handbook is meant to provide volunteers with a comprehensive overview of the Volunteer Program and includes answers to most frequently asked questions.
If you have any questions about the Volunteer Program at the Calgary International Film Festival, please email firstname.lastname@example.org, or call the main office line at 403-283-1490 and ask to speak with the Volunteer Coordinator.
