Runtime 85 mins

Alberta Premiere

While many saw the ending of the first HARD CORE LOGO as a pretty definitive (and logical) place for the saga of the fictional Canadian punk band to end – with frontman Joe Dick shooting himself in the face – cult favourite writer-director Bruce MacDonald was apparently just getting started. Hitting the nadir of a once-successful Hollywood career, the film’s fictionalized Bruce Macdonald returns to his old documentary subjects when Die Mannequin’s Care Failure (playing herself) claims to be possessed by the spirit of the late singer. But does MacDonald dismiss the claim as typical neo-punk eccentricity? Hell no. He hires a Wiccan video artist and gets back to work.

Despite its failure to bring MacDonald the real life Hollywood-level success he deserves, the first HARD CORE LOGO has become a sacred cow of Canadian filmmaking. Following up his increasingly outré work on recent films like PONTYPOOL and THE TRACY FRAGMENTS, MacDonald boldly takes the cow, puts it in a dress and gives it the finger for putting on airs. Is there anything more punk rock than that?
