When Adib (Alexander Siddig) discovers that his daughter has gone missing while on vacation in Syria, he has no choice but to go after her. Navigating through a city crawling with secret police and with the help of a duplicitous Canadian embassy official (Joshua Jackson), Adib will use a very specific set of skills learned during his life as a spy to get her back. While the setup bears a passing similarity to 2008's lovably Meatheaded Taken, this latest feature from Cairo Time's Ruba Nadda is more concerned with exploring the intimate sociopolitical details of modern day Damascus, and less with nonstop action. Things do get violent, but Inescapable is the rare thriller that asks what kind of man might be capable of achieving its brutal outcome.
