CIFF full lineup and schedule announced; single tickets now on sale

After teasing film fans for the past month with waves of announcements, the Calgary International Film Festival has announced the complete program and schedule, as well as put single tickets are now on sale. The 2015 festival kicks off on September 23 with the Opening Gala film I SAW THE LIGHT starring Tom Hiddleston.
With close to 200 films in nine different series, there’s a lot to chose from for festival goers. The complete program (including trailers) and schedule can be found online at calgaryfilm.com. Five of the best trailers were shared with those in attendance at the Festival Launch and are listed below.

THE LADY IN THE VAN Headliner Series (Dir. Nicholas Hytner)
THE LADY IN THE VAN is based on the true story of Miss Shepherd, a woman of uncertain origins who “temporarily” parked her van in writer Alan Bennett’s London driveway and proceeded to live there for 15 years. Maggie Smith (DOWNTON ABBEY) melts into the lead role of Miss Shepherd, an eccentric homeless woman, in this touching character portrait.

MY INTERNSHIP IN CANADA Canadian Cinema Series (Dir. Philippe Falardeau)
From Academy Award®-nominated Director Philippe Falardeau (MONSIEUR LAZHAR), this laugh-out-loud political satire tells the story of an independent member of parliament in Northern Quebec who, in an unusual twist of fate, finds himself holding the decisive vote on whether Canada will go to war in the Middle East. Ultimately, it will be up to his intern, a young Haitian student, to decide if the country goes to war

MERU Documentary Series (Dir. Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi)
In this riveting U.S. Documentary Sundance Audience Award Winner, a group of expert climbers set out to conquer the notoriously difficult 21,000 foot peak of India’s Mount Meru. Three years after their first attempt in 2008, they find themselves wondering if success will cost them their lives.

ROOM Headliner Series (Dir. Lenny Abrahamson)
In this emotional drama, a mother desperately tries to provide a life of normalcy for her five-year-old son while both are held captive in a 12-square-foot room. Directed by Lenny Abrahamson (FRANK) and adapted from the smash-hit novel by Emma Donoghue, ROOM is a tense thriller and haunting story of love, sacrifice and bravery in the face of true horror.

HIP HOP-ERATION Documentary Series (Dir. Bryn Evans)
A warm and inspiring look at a group of senior citizens living in New Zealand who form a hip hop dance troupe. Guided by their manager Billie Jordan, the crew, ranging from age 67 to 95, prepare for the World Hip Hop Dance Championships in Las Vegas. Equal parts crowd-pleasing, inspiring, funny and sad, HIP HOP-ERATION is a touching family-friendly film about the resiliency of the human spirit at any age.
