Doc Soup November: SOUR GRAPES

Posted on October 18, 2016

The Calgary International Film Festival and the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival are pleased to announce that the documentary SOUR GRAPES will be the first film in the 2016-17 Doc Soup Series. SOUR GRAPES is the story of one of the most well-executed and high-profile wine frauds on record.

Join us at Cineplex Eau Claire on Wednesday, November 2 at 7 p.m. as we kick-off another season of the most anticipated and acclaimed documentaries.

To celebrate the ninth season of Doc Soup Calgary, two guests will be in attendance with the film – documentary subject Maureen Downey and Executive Producer Nick Ware. Q&A to follow the screening.

In SOUR GRAPES, award-winning documentarians Reuben Atlas and Jerry Rothwell tell the story of Rudy Kurniawan, a charming young man with plenty of money and a nearly flawless memory for wines. Garnering a reputation for himself among the elite of the wine world, he went on to earn millions through auctions of his personal collection, cementing his status as an expert at the top of the field. When American collector Bill Koch and European producer Laurent Ponsont find suspicious bottles on the market, they decide to dig deeper into the details – eventually uncovering one of the most well-executed and high-profile frauds on record, and shaking the world of fine wines to its core.

A limited number of Doc Soup Subscriptions are still available. Individual tickets for SOUR GRAPES are now on sale.

Visiting guests and Doc Soup programmers are available for interviews.
